Reviews:
"My husband and I stayed at The
Dorchester Hotel February 24-27, 2005. We had wonderful experiences
each day. The staff was totally helpful...making us feel like very
special guests indeed! No request was denied. The food (especially
the breakfast) was excellent. We especially loved the bar....music,
interesting people-watching and great drinks! We stayed in the
deluxe King
room and we impressed with the
fabulous linens, etc. The location in Mayfair is perfect for walking
everywhere. Beautiful Hyde Park is right across the street and the
flowers are beginning to bloom!"
"It was with high
expectations that I returned to the Dorchester and I was delighted
to find the hotel was as magnificent as I remembered. Check in was
swift and efficient and my large bedroom was decorated with an
attractive pale yellow chintz. The bathroom was enormous with two
windows and a seperate deep tub and glass enclosed shower. The
bathroom amenties were all by Floris of London and were only lightly
scented. Service at the hotel is refined and welcoming. The
concierge staff were excellent and most efficient--the spa staff was
very friendly. Dinner at the Dorchester Grill was superb. The dining
room is lovely and grand in a Spanish Style and the food is
traditional with excellent presentation and service. The
Dorchester's location is very good--walking distance to the shops of
Mayfair and Bond Street and both Harrods and Harvey Nichols are a
plesant 15 minute stroll around Hyde Park. I would not hesitate to
return to this fine hotel on my next visit to London."

The Dorchester, one of
the top hotels in the world, achieved legendary status almost from
the day it opened in April 1931
for
its exceptional facilities, exemplary standards of service and
excellent dining experiences. For almost seventy years, The
Dorchester has rightfully claimed its place as one of the very best
hotels in London, if not the world. Luxurious, opulent, friendly,
stylish, exclusive are all words that describe this legendary hotel.
Located majestically overlooking London Hyde Park, The Dorchester
offers something for everyone.
Quite
the opposite of minimalist, The Dorchester's bedrooms evoke the
traditional style and comfort of an English Country house, with the
emphasis placed on sumptuous comfort and cosiness. With a ratio of
almost three staff to each bedroom, The Dorchesters guests are
assured the highest level of personal care and attention, 24 hours a
day.
No two rooms have the same design or decorative scheme. They are
decorated in a cosy, comfortable Georgian Country House style,
characterised by the generous use of the highest quality , exclusive
fabrics from Gainsborough, Percheron and Lelievre, hand mixed paint
colours, original prints and oils and antique and reproduction
furniture. Certain rooms have been designated for non-smokers,
others for the special needs of guests with disabilities. Bathrooms
throughout The Dorchester are fitted with Italian marble, etched
glass and chrome fittings to recall the sleek style of the buildings
Thirties origins. Stylishly lit, most bathrooms also enjoy natural
daylight and the deepest baths in London!
There are 53 suites, each one individual. Original wooden panelling,
a generous use of the highest quality, exclusive fabrics, a wealth
of pictures and accessories, fine antiques add up to a decadent
experience. From the Art Deco Junior Suites to the ample proportions
of The Dorchester Suites with their huge sitting/dining rooms
overlooking Hyde Park, there is something for everyone.
London is now undeniably one of the eating capitals of the world and
a stay in London would not be complete without an exploration of the
vibrant restaurant scene. Of course, you should start at The
Dorchester itself! The Promenade is the focal point of The
Dorchester, its glorious pillared sweep makes an ideal vantage point
from which to sink into a deep, soft sofa and watch the world go by
as a pianist plays during afternoon tea. The Grill Room's menu
celebrates British cooking at its best. Wonderful, fresh ingredients
from around the British Isles include succulent Scottish beef, Sweet
Welsh lamb and Firm-fleshed wild salmon from the Severn and the Dee.
The much lauded Oriental Restaurant is no ordinary Chinese
restaurant. It is not just the quality of the food that excels, nor
the depth of the wine list. As you enter The Oriental Restaurant,
you are transported to another continent, rich in colour and
jewel-bright, walls hung with antique silks and embroidered hangings
with many of the ingredients specially flown in from Hong Kong.
London has many excellent pubs, but very few good bars, and The
Dorchester Bar is one of that select handful. The décor is
cheerfully eccentric with hand-made Provençale tiled picture panels
and dominated by the late Liberace's glass and rhinestone baby grand
piano. The menu is equally exuberant, featuring a colourful
antipasti buffet at lunchtime and a wide range of risottos and
homemade pastas on an à la carte menu of Italian specialities
complemented by the finest Italian wines. In the evening, The Bar
becomes a relaxed and intimate jazz venue, where the barmen continue
The Dorchester traditional of mixing seductively powerful cocktails.
